Baseball and Softball Facilities
Geiger Brothers has a keen interest in the advancement of youth baseball and softball within the Jackson City School District. In 2008, the company donated labor and materials to build a new multi-purpose baseball and athletic field at Southview Elementary School and to renovate the Jackson High School baseball field. Geiger Brothers then did site preparation work on the high school campus for later installation of a girl’s softball field. These projects involved layout, sod and soil removal, grading and compacting, drainage, aeration, topsoil, sod placement, and seeding. Construction work included fencing, foul poles, base and mound pegs and sprinkler systems.

In 2010, Geiger Brothers designed and built the frame for a new scoreboard for the Jackson High School baseball field. Company craftsmen built the frame and sleeves in the Geiger Brothers fabrication shop. At the site, craftsman removed the old scoreboard, posts and concrete base, set the new sleeves, and then installed the new frame and scoreboard. The 24 x 14 frame weighed just over 1,900 pounds. The steel posts and sleeves combined weighed another 3,700 pounds and were set in 21 cubic yards of concrete.

Erik Massie now Devopment Board Chair
Geiger Brothers Vice President Erik Massie now serves as Chair of the Jackson County Economic Development Board (JCEDB). The board works to assist local businesses and attract new ones, creating and retaining jobs.
The Chairmanship is for two years. Erik recently served as Vice Chair within the board’s succession plan that is structured to ensure continuity of leadership.
At a reception December 14, 2009, outgoing chair Larry Kidd characterized Erik as a tireless volunteer and having great aspirations. Massie’s plans call for improving lines of communication among the many board members so that quarterly meetings will be more productive.
State Representative Clyde Evans noted that all counties are going through "tough times" and stated "we've got to hang tough." Evans spoke of the positive assets of Jackson County, including its "composite of creative people." He encouraged everyone to "keep a positive attitude" and to be quick to respond to all business possibilities.
Jackson Mayor Randy Heath said that considering the difficult times, which require sacrifices, JCEDB will be critical in shaping decisions about how and where to invest time and energy to position the county for future growth.
Director Jennifer Jacobs thanked all Board members for volunteering time and expertise to work toward retaining current business, and expanding with the introduction of new industries to Jackson County.
