Job Summary
The Security Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization’s security program. This position coordinates physical security, personnel security, access control, badging, visitor management, security awareness training, incident reporting, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance activities. The Security Coordinator works with project management, site operations, subcontractors, clients, and security personnel to ensure the protection of personnel, facilities, information, equipment, and assets. The role serves as a liaison between site operations and security management and helps maintain compliance with contractual, regulatory, and organizational security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Security Program Administration
• Coordinate daily implementation of site security policies and procedures.
• Assist with development and maintenance of site-specific security plans.
• Monitor compliance with company security requirements and client expectations.
• Conduct routine security inspections, audits, and assessments.
• Track corrective actions resulting from security observations or incidents.
• Maintain security documentation and records.
Access Control & Personnel Security
• Coordinate employee badging and credentialing processes.
• Verify personnel authorization requirements.
• Administer visitor access control procedures.
• Maintain accountability for issued badges, keys, and access credentials.
• Coordinate background screening requirements when applicable.
• Assist with employee termination security activities and access deactivation.
Site Security Operations
• Support security supervisors and security personnel in daily operations.
• Coordinate gate operations and site access activities.
• Monitor site security systems, alarms, CCTV systems, and access control systems.
• Review security logs and reports for trends and deficiencies.
• Assist in protecting critical equipment, materials, facilities, and information.
• Coordinate after-hours security arrangements when required.
Security Training & Awareness
• Conduct security orientation training for employees and subcontractors.
• Develop and deliver security awareness briefings.
• Coordinate annual refresher training requirements.
• Promote operational security (OPSEC) awareness programs.
• Maintain security training records.
Incident Response & Investigations
• Respond to security incidents and emergencies.
• Assist with investigations involving theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, workplace violence, or policy violations.
• Coordinate incident reporting and documentation.
• Participate in root cause analyses and corrective action development.
• Support emergency management exercises and drills.
Regulatory & Contract Compliance
• Support compliance with applicable federal, state, local, client, DOE, NRC, and contractual security requirements as applicable.
• Assist with security assessments, audits, and inspections.
• Maintain records required for security program oversight.
• Support information protection and export-controlled information safeguards where applicable.
Coordination & Communication
• Serve as a liaison between site management, contractors, security personnel, and client representatives.
• Coordinate security meetings and communicate security updates.
• Support emergency communications and notifications.
• Assist with development of security performance metrics and reports.
Required Qualifications / Experience
Education
- Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in industrial, construction, government, military, law enforcement, physical security, or related security operations.
- Experience managing access control, badging, investigations, or site security programs preferred.
- Experience in DOE, NRC, utility, manufacturing, industrial, or construction environments preferred.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
- Physical Security Professional (PSP)
- Associate Protection Professional (APP)
- FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Training
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Security Management Certificate or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of physical security principles and access control systems.
- Understanding of security incident management and investigations.
- Familiarity with CCTV, alarm systems, and electronic security technologies.
- Knowledge of operational security (OPSEC) principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to interact professionally with regulatory agencies, clients, and law enforcement.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during security events.
Working Conditions
This position is expected to work a standard full-time schedule in a construction environment. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required periodically to meet project requirements, project deadlines, and organizational needs.
