Job Summary

The Project Industrial Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes associated with the fabrication of NQA-1 Quality Level 1 (QL-1) equipment, assemblies, structures, and components supporting the Centrus project.

This position serves as the primary manufacturing process engineering resource and is responsible for designing efficient, repeatable, compliant, and scalable manufacturing workflows that support productivity, quality, safety, schedule, and cost objectives.

The Industrial Engineer works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project Management personnel to establish production processes, develop work instructions, improve manufacturing efficiency, support workforce productivity, and ensure compliance with nuclear quality requirements.

The position plays a critical role in establishing the manufacturing facility’s operational framework and continuously improving manufacturing performance throughout the life of the project.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Development

•      Develop and implement manufacturing processes and workflows.

•      Design production methods to support fabrication activities.

•      Develop process maps and manufacturing flow diagrams.

•      Establish standardized manufacturing practices.

•      Develop labor standards and production methodologies.

•      Evaluate manufacturing equipment requirements.

•      Optimize material flow throughout the facility.

•      Support facility startup and operational readiness.

Production Planning Support

•      Support production scheduling activities.

•      Analyze manufacturing capacity and constraints.

•      Develop resource loading models.

•      Support workforce planning activities.

•      Evaluate production throughput.

•      Develop productivity measurement systems.

•      Assist with bottleneck identification and mitigation.

Work Instructions & Process Documentation

•      Develop manufacturing work instructions.

•      Support creation of travelers and manufacturing procedures.

•      Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs).

•      Assist Technical Writers with manufacturing documentation.

•      Ensure documentation supports NQA-1 requirements.

•      Maintain process documentation throughout project execution.

Continuous Improvement

•      Lead continuous improvement initiatives.

•      Analyze production metrics and trends.

•      Identify process inefficiencies and waste.

•      Implement Lean Manufacturing practices.

•      Support Six Sigma initiatives.

•      Reduce non-value-added activities.

•      Improve production throughput and workflow efficiency.

•      Support operational excellence initiatives.

Manufacturing Metrics & Analysis

•      Establish manufacturing KPIs.

•      Monitor production performance.

•      Analyze labor productivity.

•      Evaluate manufacturing cycle times.

•      Track utilization rates.

•      Support manufacturing cost analysis.

•      Develop performance dashboards and reports.

•      Provide recommendations for performance improvement.

Quality Integration

•      Work closely with Quality personnel to ensure manufacturing processes support NQA-1 requirements.

•      Ensure quality requirements are integrated into manufacturing workflows.

•      Support corrective action investigations.

•      Participate in root cause analyses.

•      Support audit preparation and quality assessments.

•      Assist with implementation of quality-driven process improvements.

Engineering Support

•      Coordinate with Lead Mechanical, Structural, Civil, and Electrical Engineers.

•      Support design-for-manufacturability reviews.

•      Evaluate engineering changes for production impacts.

•      Assist with fabrication planning activities.

•      Review technical requirements affecting production operations.

•      Support technical problem resolution.

Manufacturing Facility Optimization

•      Develop facility layout recommendations.

•      Evaluate equipment utilization.

•      Improve material handling processes.

•      Support warehouse and staging area optimization.

•      Improve workflow and work-cell efficiency.

•      Assist with equipment selection and implementation.

Workforce Support

•      Support training development for manufacturing personnel.

•      Assist supervisors in establishing best practices.

•      Develop production performance standards.

•      Promote safe and efficient manufacturing practices.

•      Support organizational development initiatives.

Safety and Compliance

•      Ensure manufacturing processes support safe working conditions.

•      Participate in hazard analyses and risk assessments.

•      Support compliance with project safety requirements.

•      Promote continuous improvement in manufacturing safety performance.

•      Ensure manufacturing operations comply with applicable procedures and standards.

Required Qualifications / Experience

Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial engineering or manufacturing process engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, fabrication, industrial construction, aerospace, nuclear, defense, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Experience developing manufacturing workflows and production processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with process mapping and workflow optimization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

    Experience

    • Experience supporting ASME NQA-1 programs.
    • Experience supporting nuclear, DOE, defense, aerospace, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
    • Experience establishing new manufacturing facilities or production lines.
    • Lean Manufacturing certification.
    • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
    • Experience with ERP and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems.
    • Experience supporting welding, fabrication, machining, or assembly operations.
    • Experience with process modeling and simulation tools.

    Working Conditions

    This position is expected to work a standard full-time schedule in a construction environment. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required periodically to meet project requirements, project deadlines, and organizational needs.
