Job Summary

The Quality Engineer supports the implementation, coordination, and continual improvement of Geiger Brothers, Inc.’s Quality Management System (QMS) across the organization. This position works closely with Quality Management personnel at the company’s headquarters in Jackson, Ohio, and its office locations in Columbus, Ohio, and Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The Quality Engineer provides technical and administrative support for quality assurance, ASME and NBIC code work under R & S-Stamp projects, measuring and test equipment control, material inspections, welding activities, and audits. This position requires regular coordination with project management, procurement, field personnel, welders, non-destructive examination (NDE) organizations, the authorized inspector (AI), and Geiger Brothers’ Fleet, Equipment, and Logistics division.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management System

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Geiger Brothers Quality Management System and the programs, procedures, and work processes established within it.
Assist Quality Management personnel at the (Jackson, OH), (Columbus, OH), and (Oak Ridge, TN) locations with implementing and maintaining QMS requirements.
Promote consistent quality practices and procedural compliance across all Geiger Brothers offices, fabrication facilities, and project locations.
Support the development, revision, distribution, and implementation of quality-related policies, programs, procedures, forms, and records.
Identify potential compliance concerns and assist with developing and implementing corrective actions and process improvements.
Provide quality-related guidance and technical support to project management, field personnel, fabrication personnel, and other departments.

Audits and Assessments

Participate in internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits as required.
Assist with audit preparation, document collection, personnel coordination, and presentation of objective evidence.
Support the development, tracking, and closeout of audit findings, observations, and corrective actions.
Conduct or assist with internal assessments to verify compliance with the QMS, project requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
Assist in maintaining the Geiger Brothers Approved Supplier List (ASL) by working with procurement to distribute vendor quality surveys (VQS) to new vendors/ suppliers and to provide updates to the ASL as vendor/ supplier documentation is supplied in return.
Conduct or assist in vendor/ supplier audits for compliance with standards set by Geiger Brothers QMS, project-specific needs, and maintaining standing on Geiger Brothers ASL.

Measuring and Test Equipment

Assist with managing the location, assignment, condition, and calibration status of measuring and test equipment throughout the Geiger Brothers organization.
Maintain accurate measuring and test equipment inventories, calibration records, certificates, identification numbers, and calibration due dates.
Help ensure that equipment requiring calibration is removed from service, stored appropriately, and submitted for recalibration before its expiration date.
Coordinate the storage, issuance, return, and recalibration of measuring and test equipment in collaboration with the Fleet, Equipment, and Logistics Manager.
Verify that only properly identified and currently calibrated equipment is used for quality-affecting inspections and measurements.

R-Stamp, S-Stamp, and Code Work

Support/ coordinate R-Stamp and S-Stamp activities in accordance with the Geiger Brothers QMS, applicable ASME Code requirements, the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and customer specifications.
Develop and maintain complete R-Stamp and S-Stamp work packages, including drawings, calculations, material certs/ documentation, welding records, NDE examination reports, material inspection records, and required code forms.
Review project scopes of work, specifications, drawings, and purchase orders (POs) to identify applicable quality, welding, inspection, examination, and documentation requirements.
Coordinate with the Authorized Inspector (AI) for work-package reviews, approvals, hold-point inspections, testing, and final acceptance.
Schedule (AI) visits based on project activities and ensure the required documentation is available for review.
Maintain organized and traceable records for code-related work from initial planning through final package closeout in support of R & S-stamp program triennial audit.

Welding and Nondestructive Examination

Coordinate with welders, project management, field supervision, and designated project personnel to schedule welding activities.
Help determine, interpret, & document the welding processes, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and supporting Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) applicable to the work.
Verify that welders are properly qualified for the welding process, position, base material, filler material, and other applicable essential variables.
Maintain R-Stamp and S-Stamp welder continuity records and verify that qualifications remain current.
Coordinate welder qualification and performance testing as required by project scopes of work, code requirements, or organizational needs.
Coordinate with qualified NDE organizations & Geiger Brothers personnel to schedule hydrostatic testing, visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), or other examinations required by the project.
Review NDE procedures, personnel qualifications, examination reports, and supporting documentation for completeness and compliance with project and code requirements.
Track weld inspections, NDE results, repairs, reexaminations, and final acceptance.

Material Inspection and Control

Perform or assist with receiving inspections of materials intended for ASME and NBIC code work.
Verify materials for compliance with purchase orders, drawings (bill of materials), project specifications, material standards, and applicable code requirements.
Review material test reports, certificates of compliance, markings, heat numbers, dimensions, grades, and other required traceability information.
Inspect materials and documentation for indications of counterfeit, fraudulent, or suspect items.
Document discrepancies, damaged materials, missing traceability, or nonconforming conditions and coordinate their proper control and disposition.
Help ensure that material identification and traceability are maintained during receipt, storage, issuance, fabrication, installation, and project closeout.

Required Qualifications / Experience

Education

Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Quality Assurance, Welding Technology, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, welding, fabrication, construction, industrial maintenance, power generation, nuclear, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.
Experience supporting or administering quality management systems in accordance with recognized industry standards.
Experience reviewing technical drawings, specifications, codes, procedures, and quality documentation.
Experience coordinating inspections, testing activities, audits, corrective actions, and document control activities preferred.
Experience with ASME Code construction, repair, alteration, pressure-retaining systems, or NBIC-related activities preferred.

Preferred Certifications

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification through the American Welding Society (AWS).
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or similar quality-related certification.
NDE certifications in accordance with SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or equivalent standards.
Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor training.
Radiation Safety, OSHA, or other applicable industrial safety training.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Working knowledge of quality management system principles, quality assurance methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, welding symbols, and technical documents.
Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and applicable industry standards preferred.
Understanding of welding processes, welder qualifications, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and construction documentation.
Knowledge of material traceability, receiving inspection, calibration control, and inspection documentation practices.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, records, and deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, inspectors, welders, project personnel, suppliers, and management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.
Ability to prepare reports, maintain records, and manage quality-related documentation.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel periodically to company offices, fabrication facilities, supplier locations, customer sites, and project locations.
Ability to access construction sites, industrial facilities, and field work environments while complying with applicable safety requirements.
Ability to lift to twenty-five pounds and perform occasional walking, climbing, standing, and field inspection activities.
