Reports To: Project Safety Manager
Job Summary
The Safety & Health (SH) Supervisor (SHS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs that ensure compliance with applicable regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization. This role partners with leadership and employees to reduce workplace risks, prevent incidents, improve work performance, and continuously improve health and safety processes and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Conduct workplace risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
- Monitor leading and lagging safety metrics and communicate performance to management.
- Facilitate safety committees, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response programs.
Training and Development
- Develop and deliver HS training programs for employees, supervisors, and contractors.
- Ensure completion of required regulatory and company-specific training.
- Promote employee awareness of safety, health and environmental responsibilities.
- Coach leadership teams on best practices and compliance requirements.
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary updates to company programs.
- Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and inspections.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive a proactive safety culture through employee involvement and accountability.
- Identify opportunities to reduce risk and improve safety culture.
- Utilize data analysis to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
- Support ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or other management system initiatives, where applicable.
Qualifications / Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field; Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience
- 5–10 years of progressive HS experience in manufacturing, industrial, warehousing, construction, or related environments.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership or management experience.
- Experience managing regulatory compliance programs and conducting audits.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to influence and drive cultural change.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with incident investigation methodologies and root cause analysis.
- Project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
