Job Summary

The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental, safety, & health (ES&H) programs to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This role serves as a key safety leader, partnering with operations, project management, and field personnel to promote a proactive safety culture, reduce risk, and prevent workplace incidents.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of company safety programs and procedures.
Conduct jobsite inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events to determine root causes and corrective actions.
Develop and deliver safety training programs, toolbox talks, and orientation sessions.
Assist project teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and site-specific safety plans.
Review and maintain safety documentation, including permits, certifications, inspections, and training records.
Provide guidance and coaching to supervisors and employees on safe work practices.
Track and analyze safety performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators.
Participate in pre-construction planning, project kickoff meetings, and safety committee meetings.
Coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding safety requirements and compliance matters.
Support emergency response planning and incident management activities.
Recommend improvements to safety policies, procedures, and programs.
Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring as needed, including noise, respiratory, ergonomic, and exposure assessments.
Mentor and assist Safety Specialists and Safety Technicians in professional development.

Qualifications / Experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or related field; Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

1-3 years of progressive safety experience, preferably in construction, manufacturing, industrial, or utility environments.
Experience leading safety initiatives across multiple projects or facilities.

Preferred Certifications

CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
OSHA 500 or OSHA 510
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills.
Ability to conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses.
Experience with behavior-based safety programs and safety management systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Ability to influence personnel at all organizational levels.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to travel to project sites and work in field environments.
